Umbria Hospitality Group was founded by Samad Hachby, who was raised in Morocco and attended schools in Italy before coming to the U.S. to earn a political science degree from NC State. The restaurateur went on to establish his culinary career working on a cruise ship in Southern Europe for five years. But it was Italy that truly captured his heart (and stomach)—particularly the Umbria region, hence the hospitality group’s name.
Umbria Hospitality Group now encompasses three concepts: Italian restaurant, Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar, event venue, Melrose Knitting Mill, and rooftop Southern Italian- and Mediterranean-focused restaurant, La Terrazza.
Each of these venues was founded on the principle of sharing delicious food and drink among excellent company while spreading the knowledge of Mediterranean culture and cuisine. At its core, Umbria Hospitality Group embodies the Italian saying, “A tavola non si invecchia,” or “At the table with good friends and family you do not become old.” And Hachby’s frequent travels through Europe to experience a variety of tastes, culinary inspiration, and architecture continue to influence the concepts’ always-evolving menus.

Our flagship restaurant, Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar, provides a dining experience that takes the curious on a richly rewarding gastronomic journey across the Italian culinary landscape and rewards the intrepid adventurer with simple yet sumptuous cuisine, wines, and a complementary culinary education in the history of Italian cuisine all in a very cozy environment.
