Mulino has long been lauded as one of the best patios in Raleigh. Centered around a gorgeous blue pool, it offers ample seating options amid twinkling lights and greenery, instantly transporting diners to an intimate trattoria straight out of Italy. Of course, a spot right next to the pool is the best seat in the house, but there are also covered outside tables in the case of a rare summer shower. La Terrazza Outdoor Dining

Ever since La Terrazza opened, it has been the place to be in Downtown Raleigh for an alfresco affair, mostly thanks to its stunning views of the skyline. Talk about a picturesque spot for Instagram snaps! Its partially covered terrace sets the stage for delicious alfresco bites, bevs, and an all-around gorgeous evening. Not to mention the terrace also has its own outdoor bar—now open starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday!—welcoming you for a casual dinner, apps, and/or bottle of wine. Trust us, come sunset, there’s no better place to be!

Raleigh Magazine just revealed its 2024 cast of Best Restaurants, and we are incredibly honored that they included Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar—and named La Terrazza Best New Restaurant! RM narrowed down its list to only 20 restaurants this year—versus 25 last year—so this is a wonderful distinction for us and both restaurants’ entire teams. And, of course, we would not have won without our amazing clientele, so thank you all who have dined with us and supported us, especially at La Terrazza, which only just opened to the public in the spring but has been welcomed with open arms. We continue to love serving each and every one of you and are so excited to add this accolade under our belt!

After Midnight: Our take on an espresso martini, this cocktail will have you partying all night long. It features Titos vodka, espresso, Tonka, and spiced Mexican liquer, the perfect bold concotion for fall.
Mulino Pizza: Egg on a pizza?! Don’t knock it until you try it. Our signature pie is made with San Marzano sauce, arugula, mozzarella, prosciutto, and topped with an organic baked egg. Treat yourself for dinner or share this with the whole table!

Back to School: Tracing the Roots of Umbria Hospitality Group

As the new school year begins and we dive into the flavors of fall, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the rich history and evolution of Umbria Hospitality Group. Our three distinct concepts–Mulino Italian Kitchen and Bar, La Terrazza, and Melrose Knitting Mill–each have their own unique story! We invite you to take a journey through the beginnings of Umbria and learn how these iconic spots came to be.

Melrose Knitting Mill: A Revival of History

Our story begins with the Melrose Knitting Mill, a cornerstone of our hospitality group. In 2010, Umbria Hospitality Group owner Samad Hachby spearheaded the revitalization of this historic building. The mill, which had been vacant for 68 years, was transformed from a dark shell with no utilities into a bustling hub of activity. With the removal of old structures and the installation of 200 truckloads of dirt to create a new parking surface, the mill’s story began anew. Melrose Knitting Mill now buzzes with activity from wedding to corporate events and everything in between. “The building tells its story,” Hachby says, reflecting on the transformation.

From Babylon to Mulino

Babylon, which initially opened its doors in 2011, was a classic Moroccan restaurant with an atmosphere inspired by the vibrant artisans of Casablanca. Hachby’s vision for Babylon was to create a cozy, inviting space where diners could enjoy Moroccan specialties such as braised lamb tagine and crispy margherita pizza, reflecting the rich culinary traditions of Morocco. In 2017, Hachby decided to revamp the space blending his passion for Moroccan and Italian cuisines. The result, Mulino, combines the rich flavors of Moroccan ingredients with traditional Italian techniques, creating a vibrant dining experience that resonates with Raleigh’s evolving tastes.

Our Newest Gem: La Terrazza

Adding to the Umbria experience, La Terrazza represents our newest venture, bringing a contemporary twist to the Mulino quality that we know and love. The popular rooftop restaurant and sky bar opened in the spring of 2024 in the Warehouse District. With its Southern Italian and Mediteranean cuisine, elegant design, and elevated skyline views, La Terrazza is poised to become a favorite for those seeking a refined yet relaxed atmosphere.
